'It is Not Righteousness to Fast While on a Journey'[Bukhari]

The Fasting of the Traveller!                   What is the ruling on the fasting of                                  a traveler when it is difficult for him?                  Answer:-    If he feels that it may be difficult for him to fast,  then it is disliked for him to fast, because the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) saw a man being shaded while the people were crowding around him, and he said:- "What is this?." They said: "He is Fasting." He said:-   "It is not righteousness to fast while on a journey."   Bukhari   However, if the difficulty is severe, then it is an obligation upon him to break his fast. When the people complained to the Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) that fasting had become difficult for them, he broke his fast, then he was told that some of the people were fasting and he said:-     "Those are the disobedient ones,   Those are the disobedient ones." Muslim.     As for one who finds no difficulty in fasting, it is better for him to fast, in order to follow the example of the Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) since he used to fast.     Abu Darda', may Allaah be pleased with him, said:-    "We were with the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) on a journey in the month of Ramadan and the weather was extremely hot, and none of us were fasting except the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and Abdullaah bin Rawahah."
