Who should Be Your Friend?

As salam alaikum. Wa Rehmathullahi Wa Barkathu..

Your friends can either make you or break you. What is meant here is that your friends can either be the cause of your success or the cause of your destruction.

Once Prophet Muhammad (saw) was asked, "What person can be the best friend?" "He who helps you remember Allah (SWT), and reminds you when you forget Him"

If you are surrounded with the company of pious friends, it is difficult to get into sin. This is indeed a blessing from Allah to have a good company which is not vulgar & shameless. It is really a blessing to have friends that have principles & morals in life & invite you towards righteousness. If you have friends with no morals, no shame, no principles then save yourself by not mingling much with them--lest they influence your principles & invite you towards evil. Be wise when befriending somebody. Not everybody who wants to be your friend should be allowed to be your friend. You need to vet that, strain it out. Build your personality to either influence them or LEAVE THEM--lest they influence you!

The Prophet (saw) said: "A person is upon the religion of his friend, so let every one of you look to whom he keeps as a friend." [Sunan Abu Dawud]

When we look at the fish in the sea, all of the 'same type' move together. You won't see one whale, shark moving with a star fish, a small fish etc... So you either go to the "Masjid together" or to the "theater/clubs together."

Strive to find good companions and keep away from bad companions, for a friend will have an impact on his friends, as it was said: Do not ask about a man, rather ask about his friend, for every friend follows the example of his friends.

Each of the sahabas were SUPERSTARS in their own way--Why? Because they lived with "THE SUPERSTAR" - Muhammed (saw). They were in his "COMPany" 24*7, hence they are called "COMPanions". So who makes up your company? The pious? Or..........?????

Think about this: People take pride in keeping good relationships with "Unique" people. Who can be more UNIQUE than ALLAH ? Why not befriend Him & those who are seeking His pleasure?

When I stand before God at the end of my life,
I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left,
and could say, "I used everything you gave me."
